Toward the end of my freshman year, my math grade was strong enough that my class dean presented me with what felt like a daunting opportunity: Honors Algebra Two. Back when I started 10th grade, I was heavily struggling with the new concepts that were being taught. I would spend hours trying to study on my own every night but it didn’t help because I didn’t have anyone to correct me if I did something wrong. Thankfully, during the first semester of the year, I asked my parents if I could get some help, and they found Kayla. Suddenly, I went from failing tests to acing them! Kayla has been a truly helpful tutor by being able to answer any question I needed and explain it simply and thoroughly. One thing that she really helped me with is helping me study on my own more efficiently. She would write notecards about each section I was learning, and I would study them on my own. This seriously helped me understand what she saw as the most important things to remember for each unit, because sometimes school doesn’t make that as clear. Or they teach it in a more confusing way. Kayla never loses her patience with me, and explains things in a way that I fully understand. I plan on having her as my tutor next year because of how well she helped me this year.
